The Paleo way
Should you be on the Paleo diet?
The name Paleo comes from the word Paleolithic, which refers to an era between 2 million and 10,000 yeas BC. During these times men and women were hunters and gathers living off all the good stuff including fruits and vegetables, wild meat, eggs and fish as well as nuts and berries.
Revolution has since seen the dramatic change in human nutrition and we have moved away from eating like hunters and gathers to a lifestyle of added sugars, saturated fats, trans-saturated fats, refined high GI grains and salt.
These changes affected the human body in many different ways and will continue to do so unless people become more aware of what there eating. Weight gain, diabetes and cardiovascular disease are some of the implications we are now seeing due to poor quality food choices.
The Paleo way of dieting means avoiding modern day high processed foods and eating more like a caveman. Obviously in this day and age you don’t need to go out and catch your food with your own bare hands but think along the lines of meat, fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans and drink plenty of water.
The Paleo diet is often used by Crossfit athletes in my opinion they take this diet to the extreme there is no reason to make life so hard for yourself and over analyse your nutrition plan. For example Paleo banana bread didn’t exist in these times that’s just a bullshit excuse for eating what you want which I have no problem with but as I explained above this diet is based on what cavemen ate in the Palaeolithic era and I highly doubt banana bread was on the menu.
If your looking to get lean and healthy the Paleo option is a good one. Look after your health, get lean but don’t let the Paleo way consume you!
