Cleansing, Detoxing and Pissing in the Wind….

Hey guys,

I hope you’re well?

Every so often I get a little annoyed at silly things in the health/fitness/nutrition industry so I jump on my computer, write it how it is to try and HELP people regarding the best ways to get in shape.

Yesterday I was involved in a discussion on Facebook about detoxing, cleansing, toxins and how buying hundreds of dollars of certain “supplements” would/wouldn’t help with this process.

I called BULLSHIT.

My question was very simple:

“What exactly are you cleansing?”

My question was never answered.

Instead of me giving my opinion on the matter, what I’m going to do is give you the opinions of many highly regarded experts and tell you what they have to say:

I have slammed these ‘detox’ diets and products for a long time. First off, they are complete BS so let’s just be clear on that. Your liver and kidney detox all you need. Secondly, if you ask most of the people promoting these ‘cleanses’ and ‘detoxes’ what ‘toxins’ they are actually referring to, they can’t even name them! – Doctor Layne Norton.

We concluded that ‘detox’ used in product marketing is a myth. Many of the claims about how the body works were wrong and some were even dangerous. – Doctor Stu Phillips.

“The body is a self-cleansing unit with a constant turnover of cells. There’s no need for the typical healthy non-heroin addict to attempt to detoxify or cleanse,” – Alan Aragon (nutrition advisor M.S.)

Thinking of doing a ‘detox’ diet? May as well donate your liver & kidneys to someone that actually knows how to use them! #DetoxYourBrain – Laurent Bannock (nutritionist)

You have organs in your body that take care of detoxing 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Heck, they even go for 366 in a leap year. – Mike Samuels (Diet coach)

I am going to be honest from the outset; I do not like the term “detox”. When people think of nutrition (which is my thing) and detox at the same time then all sorts of horribly unhealthy ideas spring to mind: cabbage soup diet, juice diet, baby food diet, raw food diet and similar non-sustainable nonsense diets. Scott Baptie (nutritionist)

There is no scientific evidence to show that the body needs to be “detoxed” – Suzie Burrell (nutritionist)

So there you have it. Save your money and don’t buy into the bullshit.
