"Clean eating" (Not your usual post)

What a bullshit phrase!

After discussions with friends over the weekend I’m confused as to what “Clean eating” actually is?

I don’t use the phrase myself but see it used just about everywhere, everyday.

So what is “Clean eating”?

You shower with you food? You spray cleaning products all over your salad?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for being healthy but “clean eating” means nothing, it doesn’t represent any type of food group and the definition of “Clean eating” will differ from person to person depending on what their beliefs are and what protcols they follow.

Is clean eating a low carb diet, is it a high protein plan, is it a vegetarian diet or does it mean you only eat non-processed foods? I don’t know to be honest.

The phrase doesn’t make much sense at all, nor does it teach the individual anything about proper nutrition.

Eat smart, eat according to your goals, track your macros, moderation is the key and that’s how you maintain a lifestyle change not a fad diet.

Does a cookie a week make your nutrition plan “dirty”? I wouldn’t say so.

Is it important to include enough greens in your diet to ensure you’re consuming enough fibre, vitamins and minerals from your food, of course.

But, one good meal won’t get you lean and one bad meal won’t make you fat.

Today’s obsession with posting photos on social media with the hash tag #cleaneating suggest to me that it’s not something you regularly do and to be honest, no one really cares about what you’re eating.

In conclusion; don’t concern yourself with “clean” or “dirty” foods, build a healthy relationship with food, educate yourself about nutrition and punt the fad diets to make permanent life style changes.
